LIBERAL POLICIES | LIBERALISM IN CORNWALL
The Liberal party exists to builds a Liberal Society in which every citizen shall possess liberty, property and security, and none shall enslave by poverty, ignorance or conformity. Its chief care is for the rights and opportunities of the individual and in all spheres it sets freedom first.
The "Cornish Liberal Party" is affiliated to the "British Liberal Party" and exists to promote the principles of the RADICAL LIBERAL TRADITION throughout the DUCHY of CORNWALL. We align with our sister parties in England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.
We cover the six Cornish Parliamentary Constituencies of Cornwall. Although Liberals have no MP's at present it is active in Local government in Cornwall at all levels. There are Liberal Party Councillors on all tiers of Cornish local councils. Our largest group is on Illogan Parish Council. The Liberal Party continues to fight elections at all levels of government, increasing its votes and seats in 2007 elections.
The LIBERAL PARTY is NOT and NEVER has been associated with the Liberal Democrats. The Liberal Party is the same party of Fox, Wilberforce, Gladstone, Lloyd-George, Jo Grimmond and David Penhaligon et al.
The Liberal Party is the oldest Political party in Britain, tracing our roots back to 1650 when we were the "Kings Party" and then the "WHIGS". The party became the LIBERALS in 1830 and since 1874 has run the National Political Party Organisation.
The first POLITICAL PARTY TO DO SO.
(The Liberal - Democrats were formed in 1988 as a new political party, and the Liberal Party stayed Independent of them).
We are in effect the only OFFICIAL LIBERAL PARTY IN BRITAIN
